A Domestic installer course is a short-term training program for installers that aims to deliver the knowledge and skills needed to conduct basic electrical installation work, following the European Standard IEC 60364:2005 (requirements for basic safety and essential performance of electrical installations).
Short Term Training?
The majority of the courses last around two days; however, an introductory course may last up to 5 days. An instructor will take students through various chapters from the standard and then ask them questions on what they have just learned. You will also get plenty of practical experience by carrying out exercises. The instructor will provide all necessary documentation such as manuals etc., so there is no need for you to purchase anything extra to complete the course.
The Basic Electrical Installations (Amendment) Regulations 2015, which came into force on 1st October 2015, contained new requirements for all installers carrying out electrical work in domestic properties. In addition, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 has also recently been extended to include dwelling houses and was amended by the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005. So how do you know where you stand with all this legislation? This 2-day training provides a straightforward explanation of why these changes are important and what they mean to you as an installer.
There is no previous experience or qualifications required to take part in this course. However, it is essential that you have a good understanding of the English language.
What Will I Learn?
On successful completion of this course, students will receive a training certificate valid for three years. Upon this time, a new credit-based assessment must be carried out to revalidate the certificate. This means that if you’ve already taken an installer course with us before, we can simply arrange the assessment without you doing another one!
Eight units on this course: Units 1 – 5 cover Part P of the Building Regulations, and units 6 & 7 cover health and safety on site. In addition to these units, there is also a unit covering how to complete an electrical installation method statement. At the end of each unit, there is a short multiple-choice test that you will need to pass to progress with the course. Upon successful completion of all eight units, you will be awarded the “Domestic Installer Award.”
Domestic installer courses are designed for people who want to learn how to build an electrical installation from scratch. So if you’re looking for a job as an electrician, this would be perfect!
