Types Of Color Contacts Lenses

One of the benefits of wearing contact lenses nowadays is that they are available in a variety of colors. Color contacts lenses enable you to alter the original color of your eyes. You can either go for colors that are subtle or ones that are much more bold. Basically, contact lenses are available in two forms; as prescription or plano lenses.

Prescription Colored Contacts

Prescription lenses are the ones prescribed by an eye doctor. Their main purpose is vision correction in those people who suffer from conditions such as astigmatism, hyperopia (farsightedness) or myopia (nearsightedness). Although their main purpose is to correct vision, they are also available in a number of colors. The colored types also hep to enhance your eyes’ natural color.

Plano Colored Contacts

Plano lenses on the other hand, do not correct eye vision at all. People wear them for cosmetic reasons. If you feel that your eyes would look better with blue tinted lenses, but you don’t have any vision problems, you can opt for plano lenses.

Color Contacts Types

Many of the color contacts available are made in such a way that they mimic your iris; that is the part of your eye that is colored. The iris is comprised of colorful shapes and lines. And, some colored lenses also have tiny colored dots as well as colored shapes and lines which make them appear more natural on the eyes. Colored contacts actually have a tint and there are a number of tints available. Below are two common color contacts tints.

Visibility Tints

As the name suggest, this tint is only meant to help contact lens wearers see their contacts when they are inserting them into their eyes or when removing them, or in case they drop them. A light green or blue tint is added to the contacts and this tint is quite faint. Because the tint is very faint, the lenses do not alter the color of your eyes.

Enhancement Tint

This tint is translucent but solid. Lenses with this tint are a little bit darker when compared with lenses with a visibility tint. The main purpose of this tint is to enhance your eyes’ natural color. And, this tint is more suited for someone with light-colored eyes because the tint makes your eyes’ natural color more vibrant.

So, whether you want prescription color contacts lenses or you want the plano type, you can choose the color that you prefer. Just make sure that you take into account factors like skin tone and hair color before you choose your colored contacts.
