Just because you find yourself living with PV doesn’t mean that you should stop traveling. While this disease can make it challenging to move around if you plan your trip the right way you don’t have to stay home. Instead, it just means that you need to think ahead and be organized so that your comfort isn’t compromised along the way.

Talk to Your Doctor

It’s important to make sure your doctor says it’s safe for you to travel. You should also discuss with them the best way to manage your disease along the way. They’ll also be able to ensure that your immunizations are up to date. This is especially important if you plan to visit an exotic destination or developing country.

Keep Your Medical Bag Well-Stocked

Not only should you make sure that you have all the medications and supplies you typically need but you should also make sure you have a little extra in case of an emergency. Your doctor should also be able to tell you what you should bring with you in case you experience a travel-related challenge (e.g. motion sickness, diarrhea). In the event of an emergency, it’s best to be prepared. Your doctor may even be able to tell you where you should go if you need to see a doctor if you need medical attention while you’re traveling.

One thing that a lot of people frequently forget to bring with them is a list of their doctors and their contact information. Of course, it’s also helpful to have a list of all the medications you’re taking, how much you take, when you take them, and their generic name if you happen to know it. You may even want to take the step to have your doctor draft a letter on official stationery explaining your condition and how you’re being treated for it in case you need to see a doctor while traveling.

Make sure you carry your medical bag on the flight with you. Don’t check it in or it’s possible it may get lost.

Get the Special Treatment You Deserve

While you’re living with PV you should make sure that you notify your travel agent and facilities of your special, health-related requirements. It doesn’t matter why you’re traveling you should also make sure that you’re always prepared to take care of yourself. Remember, you don’t have to stay home just because you have this disease.
