What is Stainless Steel Engraving? The engraving process is the oldest known technique to engrave on metals. It usually involves authentic etching and sometimes even rubbing. This technique was initially used on metal plates since they are more accessible than the usual steel.

There are many ways to engrave stainless steel. The technique uses a flat plate or a rotary tool. The most commonly used technique is the Multiple Pass Engraving (MP) technique, where the first or the last strokes of the engraving stroke by using different passes or methods of cutters. As the strokes are made, the ink coating is baked onto the surface of the metal plate.

There are mainly three types of machines for engraving stainless steel: the banded, the slotted, and the freehand engraver. In the banded engraver, the metal slide is placed into a slot in the engraver where a metal bandpasses. This is done on both sides of the plate at the same time.

This allows two or more passes to be made and gives more detail on the image or pattern.
The slotted engraver is an automatic engraver that uses a cylindrical guide like the ones you find in automated teller machines. This is usually combined with other operations like punching or a die head. With this equipment, it is easy to do multiple passes of the same pattern on the stainless steel surface. There is no mechanical action involved for the freehand engraver, but the operator must still know how to use it properly so that the image will not be damaged. The last type, the diamond engraver, is a bit more expensive but is very efficient in getting precise patterns on the stainless steel surface.

Most of the time, stainless steel engraving is done on the obverse side of letters or the reverse of nouns. But some people also do it on the front of objects or, in the case of corporations, logo. Stainless engraving is acceptable to include corporate gifts, insurance or mortgage protection plans, and legal papers. There are places where it is not acceptable, including military gifts, military symbols, political campaign contributions, funeral service gifts, and fundraising cards.

When it comes to steel engraving, the options are limitless. One can engrave on the surface just about anything, including text, images, logos, charts, diagrams, charts, etc. There is a wide range of methods used for steel engraving, including stamping, laser, etching, and engraving. The process will depend on the type of thing that will be engraved.
