This system found mostly in the older designed cars is an ignition system that uses a distributor, electronic ignition control module, pickup, and external coils, but although it is a high-maintenance system, your Electronic Ignition Distributor system is pretty cheap and easy to fix.

  • – HOW DOES THIS SYSTEM WORK IN YOUR VEHICLE?

This system uses an armature (instead of contact breaker point on the battery system of ignition), that consists of a toothed reluctor (this is your part that rotates), a pickup coil ( this part will catch the voltage), and a vacuum advance. How does electronic ignition distributor work?

The armature will send the voltage signals that are created to the electronic module which in turn breaks and makes the working circuit.

  • – WHAT IS AN IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR?

This is a system found in internal combustion engines that not only uses spark-ignition but also uses a mechanically-timed ignition and consists of an enclosed shaft that rotates

Its main function is important as far as the spark is concerned and works in the following order:

  • 1 – Route the high voltage (or secondary) current
  • 2 – From the ignition coils to the spark plugs
  • 3 – But must be in the correct firing order
  • 4 – All in the correct amount of time and timing.
  • – WHAT WOULD AN ELECTRONIC IGNITION BE?

It s a system that uses electronically generated electrical pulses which are controlled by transistors and sensing devices and all this is done without the aid of breaker points that are mechanically actuated.

  • – HOW DO REPLACE THIS SYSTEM YOURSELF?

This is usually done when you have to do an Electronic Ignition System Conversion, but also if the distributor or one of its parts is faulty and you just want to replace it.

To do this follow the following process step by step:

  • 1 – First you have to remove the distributor cap
  • 2 – make a note or memorize the following :
a – The vacuum advance bulb
b – The location of the wire that goes to the cylinder
    number one
  • 3 – locate the electrical connector and disconnect it
  • 4 – Now you can remove the distributor retainer bolt/clamp by loosening it. And there you go 4 simple steps to remove it like we mentioned though high-maintenance it is quick and easy to work on.
