Experts recommend testing a minimum of once a year for all sexually active individuals. This should be a regular schedule to check for possible asymptomatic cases. If you only get tested when there are outward signs, then you might be infecting others without knowing it. You could also be dealing with unseen bodily damage. High-risk individuals should get tested more frequently.
Testing During Period
It is possible to detect infections even if a women is undergoing her monthly period. Changes in the period such as sudden heavy flow could be a sign of STD so watch out for this.
Full STD Panel Test
Most kits will focus solely on a single type of infection. Use these if you are fairly sure about what you are dealing with and you only need confirmation. There are also full panel STD test kits that check for multiple types. These are good options for the annual tests take by those who are not experiencing any symptoms.
