Wireless Barcode Scanner is a barcode scanner designed specifically for wireless LANs. It can connect to a wireless network via Bluetooth or radio-frequency transmission (RF transmission). Wireless Barcode Scanner connects to remote systems through Bluetooth, TCP (routines), or WebSockets. Once attached to the system, the bar code data can be read via a virtual universal serial bus (USB) card, serial printer, or wireless computer interface. The RF signal transmitted by the card can reach any unit that has an RF modem and wireless-enabled.
Wi-Fi capability
Real wireless scanners are those that have built-in Wi-Fi capability. There are also many third-party wireless scanners available in the market. Most of these devices have certain basic prerequisites like a scanner driver, an appropriate USB cable, and an Internet connection. Some devices are compatible with Windows, and some others require a Java application. Wireless Barcode Scanner can scan most barcodes, including UPC, ACD, 5E, and RFM.
Important Features to Know About
Most handheld barcode scanners available in the market today have the following general features. They have a digital display, button-type operation, auto scanning option, backlight control, multi-functional display, touch screen capability, and support for most operating systems. However, there are some portable barcode scanners available in the market that have additional features. Some of these include automatic data-reading capability, product identification, direct printing feature, data capture for security purposes, barcode verification, and high-frequency operation.
Types of Scanners
There are two types of wireless barcoding scanners available in the market – the Bluetooth wireless barcoding scanner and the iControl wireless barcode scanner. The Bluetooth devices are usually equipped with iControl software. With the iControl software, it is easy to transfer data between a Bluetooth device and a computer. The Bluetooth devices usually come with iControl software, a free download from the vendor, so you do not have to install it on your computer before buying the wireless scanner.
The TFT Barcode Scanner
Some of the wireless barcode scanners available in the market are TFT (Thin Film Transistor) barcode scanners. The TFT barcode scanner uses a phased array transceiver and a special type of display that can be used for reading and encoding data. This equipment generates a bar code image that includes all the required information in a clear format. To make it more useful for warehouse and supply chain operations, many manufacturers are incorporating the latest technologies such as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) scanning and touch screen technology.
