Create Your Own Face Mask And Make A Personal Statement

.

These days, many people are continuing to wear face masks to protect others. This is especially true when they are out shopping, attending events with groups of people, or are visiting loved ones in hospitals. Buying and keeping face masks to wear in public and in medical facilities has sometimes been a challenge. Those who prefer single use masks found out quickly that there was a shortage at the beginning of the pandemic. Those who prefer cloth masks understand that they must be washed after each use, so they purchase several to have on hand.

But, for those of you who are crafty, you can create your own face mask with just a few supplies. You can make several of your own or make more for others to wear. The best thing about creating your own masks is that you can choose the design you want most and an attractive fabric of your choice.

To start, find a pattern with a shape you like. There are instructions for masks that require sewing and instructions for those that do not require sewing. You can choose from a variety of fabrics for your mask as well. There are thousands of cotton and cotton blend fabrics in fabric and craft stores. You can choose from animal prints, solid colors, and much more.

Before you start to create your own face mask, gather the supplies you need. Scissors, elastic bands for the ear straps, thread and needle (if you choose to sew your mask), and the pattern or instructions are needed to begin the project. Many places are requiring visitors to wear masks with at least 2 layers. So, you will want to cut 2 pieces of the same shape and size.

To use the sewn mask instructions, make sure to have your needle threaded in advance. If you’re using a sewing machine, make sure to leave some space on the ends for the elastic bands to be pushed through.

If you’re interested in a no sew mask, there are instructions for making one out of a cotton bandana or similarly shaped piece of cotton fabric. The design involves making several folds and tucking the sides into the folds on the back side. Hair bands are attacked before tucking the excess into the folds, to use as ear bands. There is no reason why anyone with basic creative skills can’t make a face mask suitable is wear in public places or private businesses.
