For those of us who grew up in the 1990s, it feels like those carefree years were only yesterday although those times were vastly different then the world kids are growing up in today.

So many things are quintessential 90s but one of the things I remember most about the decade was the music and hip hop was huge in that era.

Tupac Shakur, Method Man, Wu-Tang Klan, Public Enemy, Run DMC, Naughty by Nature, The Notorious B.I.G. These are some of the names you may remember from those years. Some of the artists from back then, including Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z and Sean Coombs are still very much alive, well and active in the music industry today.

It has been said that hip hop really peaked in the 90s and some of the most epic performers came out of that decade. 90s Hip Hop Artists shaped hip hop into what it is today but the music that came out of the 1990s is unforgettable and is still very much alive today.

While many of us who lived through that era still have our old cassette tapes and CD’s, I’m sure many others have lost their old music collection. Perhaps it was sold to make some cash without thinking that someday they might want to go back and listen to the sounds of their youth.

It’s not hard to find that old music because it’s still everywhere. Radio stations still play plenty of 90s hip hop artists and even modern music sites on the internet have most of those old songs and artists available. Alternatively, if you prefer to have a piece of nostalgia in your hands, you can find many old cassette tapes and compact discs in second hand stores, thrift stores, music stores and even some department store sales bins. Yard sales, flea markets and online bidding sites are also great places to look.

90s hip hop wasn’t just about the music. It was a lifestyle. Many artists came from tough neighborhoods where opportunities were hard to come by unless you turned to the streets. These artists had talent and were lucky enough to have made it and they took their tough street culture all the way to the top with them.

Those of us who lived through the 90s will never forget the music, the fashion, the culture and the newsworthy events that happened in the hip hop world and the legacy of those artists that brought us through that era are alive and well today and will live on for many years to come.
