Work your passion and you will never work at all. Easier said than done, especially if you have multiple concerns and responsibilities that are pulling you in all directions. However, you know you have a responsibility to yourself and that is to find the things that make you happy and fulfilled. If you want to find your passion and follow your heart, here are ways to do it.
Decide about what you really want.
The true test of knowing what you want is asking yourself this: “If money were no object and I can make a decision without worries, what do I really want to do in life?” Your passion is something that you would do even if you didn’t get paid for it because it rewards you in other ways. Of course, it is still a better deal if you do earn from it.
Make a list of the things you enjoy, then rate them according to their personal importance to you. Next, choose the one for which you would gladly do for free – the one thing you would regret the most if you did not do it. Whatever that is, that is your passion.
Learn to tell the difference between a hobby and a passion.
A hobby is something you do on the side that you enjoy. While this is well and good, you have to keep in mind that you still need to be able to sell what you do. Unless, of course, money is indeed not an issue. An engrossing activity may be exciting and emotionally rewarding but if it has no other benefit to you or if it requires you to spend more than you can afford, it may not be the most viable choice.
Think about the ways that you can find your passion into a fulfilling career. You do not have to make millions annually for your passion to qualify it as a career (although that certainly helps). However, you do need to enjoy a comfortable life that lets you do what you love.
Look back.
To confirm what your passion truly is, try to review your life so far. What things or activities did you do confidently that gave you amazing results? What things do you regret not doing? What talents or skills do you have that you feel were not maximized? What potentials do you have that you feel should have been developed fully? Which areas of your life do you think can be improved further so you can fulfill your potential, serve your community, and become the best version of yourself?
